With the streaming service now axing the HBO drama “Nina,” the company is going back to the drawing board for a new series to replace it.
“We are still planning on making a new season for Nina, but we are not yet ready to announce it,” Netflix’s VP of content marketing and distribution, Mike Orenstein, wrote on Twitter.
“We have been working on some new content for a while now.
We will be announcing more about it when we are ready to reveal more.”
Netflix’s first season of “Ninas” was a huge success in its second season, averaging nearly 10 million viewers and earning an Emmy nomination.
Orensteins Twitter posts do not specify how many episodes the new series will have, but it is likely to consist of episodes of the first two seasons and other content from Netflix’s catalog.
Netflix’s announcement on Thursday did not reveal what the new Nina season will look like.
“The original series had its highs and lows.
But we are always trying to build on the best of what we have,” Orens wrote.
“The show that we are working on today is going to have its highs, lows, and triumphs.”
“Nina” debuted on Netflix in May 2015 and has been a popular cable-to-series series since then, winning a slew of Emmy nominations for its writing and production.
Netflix plans to launch its new series in 2017, and has indicated that it will likely be a stand-alone series.
Netflix is also planning to introduce “Ninos” to the platform in 2017.
